Welcome to the Kent Campus Learning Center: “We
specialize in excellence”
Mission
In an atmosphere conducive to learning, the
Kent Campus Learning Center will provide instructional support to Florida
Community College students using various teaching methods and resources designed
to foster the development of learning skills.
Goal
To create a caring,
friendly, educational atmosphere where students can receive specific tutoring
help with their course work. Our
final goal is to create better-informed, independent students with improved
study and critical thinking skills.
Punctuality
- Be on time
- If you need to miss
work, call in to supervisor or Learning Center manager
- Make up hours
- Usually not
available

offered during busy times
- Within the pay period
that absence occurred
- Holidays: no make up
Planned
Absences
Notify lab
coordinator ahead of time and attempt to arrange for a replacement.
Discuss plans with coordinator. Excessive
absences will endanger your job.
Time clock

Clock in and out.
- If you forget to clock
in or out? (See your supervisor or Mr. Pender).
- Break time (Must take these –
Clock out for break).
- Maintain scheduled hours.
- Work only the hours for which you are scheduled.
- Pay cards are due
during the days before the 15th and again just before
the end of the month. Talk to your supervisor.
- Work closely with your
supervisor about your pay card.
Name tag and dress
- Dress appropriately –
be proud of yourself and your job
- Nametag is a must:
- On upper front of
blouse or shirt
- Not from sleeve or
bottom of shirt

Courteous and professional
Greet
and circulate:
- When a student enters
the Learning Center, smile and offer to help.
- Help
student yourself if you can, or take student to the place he/she needs
to be and introduce him/her to a tutor.
- Circulate; do not sit
with one student to the exclusion of others.
- Never sit with your
back to the tables.
- Be prepared to get
up, walk to students, and offer
help.
Keep the statistics for your area:
Computer
tutors - keep the hourly record of all students in the Learning
Center.
Discipline tutors - track number of students served during your
hours
Know
your resources:
Know
the Learning Center’s computer tutorial offerings in your discipline.

videos available in your area.

Accidents:
- Must be reported
immediately to your supervisor.
Diversity
- Respect all students coming to the Learning Center and refrain
from judgmental conversations concerning religion and politics.
Tutoring for Pay
Student tutors in the Learning
Center who tutor for pay outside the center MUST follow the following
guidelines.
- All
“for pay” tutoring must be done outside the Kent Campus Learning
Center area.
- No
advertisement of any kind may be posted in the LC or spoken about to
students in the Learning center.
- Tutors
who are asked about the availability of “for pay” tutors (either in
person or on the phone) must reply that the Learning Center does not
give out the names of any outside “for pay” tutors, but the people
willing to tutor often advertise on the information boards located around campus.
Food and Drink

Snacks and drinks (covered preferred) are
allowed in the Learning Center tutoring areas and in the computer area.
Please be sure to clean up after yourself.

Break Room Use: Student
tutors are invited to use the Learning Center and Library break room.
Please remember to clean up sink, microwave, refrigerator, and table area
when you are finished eating.
Clean-up
- It
is every tutor’s responsibility to keep the Learning Center clean and
neat. This includes: chairs
under the table, trash off the floor and tables, “scratch” paper
trays full, textbooks neatly arranged, and pencil sharpeners emptied.
Homework/personal e-mail/computer work
- LIMITED,
remember your job is to tutor other students!!!
