Requirements for CRLA Advanced/Level II Certification

I.      Minimum of ten hours of tutor training beyond Level I (20 cumulative hours)

A. General Workshop – Time 4 hours – Review of selected Level I topics

B. Supervisor Workshop – Time 2 hours (small group) (can be one or two workshops as needed.

  1. Tutors complete the reading and assignments for two Training Manual topics listed below.  

  2. Supervisors arrange space and time to do a small group interactive discussion about the topics for which students have done the assignments.

  3. Attendance verification sheets required.

C. Independent Study - To fulfill required hours, tutors may complete any additional topics by working  independently, completing the assignments, and having a conference with discipline Coordinator. (supervisor) All written assignments are required.

II.  Areas to be covered in tutor training: In addition to reviewing Level I topics, a minimum of four (4) of the following topics should be completed in Level II training.  The exact time spent on each may vary.

TOPICS FOR LEVEL II

1.     Review of Level I topics using discussion, and films. (General Workshop – 4 hours)

2.     Use of probing questions

3.     Characteristics of adult learners/Learning

4.     Cultural Awareness and inter-cultural communications

5.     Identifying and using resources

6.     Tutoring in specific skill/subject areas

7.     Record Keeping Documentation

8.     Other - More Direct Tutoring Techniques

III. Required Tutoring Experience

A. 25 additional hours of actual tutoring time after completion of all Level I requirements (a minimum of 50 cumulative hours of actual tutoring)

  1. Tutor must keep a time log and turn it in the signed document daily.

  2. Tutor may check his/her weekly progress by consulting with Accounting Coordinator in the accounting lab
