Helping Students Set Goals and Successfully Plan: (Level I CRLA # 7)As a tutor you can reinforce your tutoring by helping your tutee to understand goals and set them to help achieve his/her educational success. In order to help your tutee, you must first understand and practice these concepts for yourself. Work through the 5 Study Skills Workshops at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University http://www.ucc.vt.edu/stdysk/stdyhlp.htmln . Follow up with any other items on that page that might be useful to you. Think about how these study strategies can help your tutee and how you might apply the ideas in your discipline.
Read Chapter 2: Goal Setting in:
Achieving Personal and Academic Success by Petrie, Landry, and Edwards that
is on reserve at the Circulation Desk of the Kent Library. Relate this material to yourself by writing (typed please)
the questions and your answer to the Life Applications exercise (page 34) and
answering the review questions on page 35. (Write questions and answers)
Additionally, explain how you could incorporate the information
you have studied in your tutoring of students in your discipline area.
Turn your paper into your supervisor for review and discussion, and/or
participate in a supervisor directed workshop. |
