Compliance with the Ethics and Philosophy of the Tutor Program: (Level I CRLA # 13)

Private tutoring by Kent Learning Center tutors.

  • Learning Center Coordinators or Student Tutors may not suggest a paid tutor (professional or student) to any student or parents who inquires.  Students and parents should be referred to the display wall bulletin boards around campus. 
  • A Learning center tutor may accept pay for tutoring outside of his/her tutoring time in the lab, but appointments and business arrangements may not be made in the lab.  Tutors may not hold ‘for pay” tutoring sessions in the lab, even when they are not working.
  • Violation of these guidelines will result in dismissal.   

 Code of Ethics and Confidentiality for Tutors

  • I will accurately represent my capability, education, training, and experience.
  • I will maintain my competence at the highest level through continuing study, and training.
  • I will not discriminate because of race, color, national origin, religion, age, sex, sexual preference, or socioeconomic status in rendering service
  • I value privacy, dignity, and worth of the individual, and will use skills consistent with these values.
  • I will observe the principle of informed consent with respect to individuals and groups served
  • I will foster an educational environment that nurtures individual growth and development. 
  • If I become aware of unethical practices, I am accountable for taking appropriate action concerning these practices.

View the web site and its links.  Review the Learning Center rules concerning private tutoring by student tutors and the code of ethics and confidentially with your supervisor.  Make sure you understand each point and how it relates to the Learning Center.
