an introduction to Workforce Program Assessment
New CPR standards require all workforce programs to reach the
"Working" level in the first two categories of
the Program Assessment Rubric
(Program Outcomes and Assessment Methods) by the end of the
2007-2008 academic year, and achieve "Working" in all categories
on the rubric by the end of the 2008-2009 academic year.
The steps in the planning process
for each program are as follows:
-
Determine the program's
Core Competencies
-
Map your core competencies to the
courses in the program curriculum
-
Revise course outlines to reflect
core competencies
-
Choose a model for gathering,
tracking, and reviewing assessment data
-
Design/select specific
assessment tools and strategies
-
Finalize your initial
assessment plan
-
Provide orientation and training
sessions for faculty (especially adjuncts)
-
Implement your assessment plan,
and organize sessions to review your results
-
Make changes in the program to
improve outcomes
