The
4th
annual Florida Master Teacher Seminar will be an
exciting professional development opportunity for faculty.
Teachers from all types of higher learning institutions and from a
variety of disciplines will gather in Jacksonville, Florida from
June 3-7, 2007 for an exchange of
learning, teaching, and philosophy. The focus of discussion and
activities for the entire week will be on innovations and
challenges in undergraduate education.
The seminar is an assembly of dedicated
educators in a retreat-like environment. Each participant will be asked to submit ideas to the
seminar for discussion. The focus of ideas and teaching strategies
will be innovation and excellence in classroom teaching. Seminar
staff will lead sessions centered around special interests of the
participants. The seminar is limited to a total of 35
participants.
Site
Florida Community College is the
host institution for this event, which will take place at the
Marywood Retreat and Conference Center
on the St. John's River. This historic site is operated by the
Diocese of St. Augustine, the oldest Catholic diocese in
America. Participants will also be able to enjoy the natural
beauty of the area on the banks of the St. John's River.
Cost
The
registration cost of $675 covers all lodging, meals, and
workshop materials. The registration deadline is
May
1, 2007. Space is available for 35 participants.
Registration fees are non-refundable but may be transferred to
another individual.
FCCJ
faculty may request institutional funding to cover the costs of
their registration (more info) and must
also submit a Line of Duty Leave Form along with their
registration form.
Schedule
The seminar begins with check-in
the afternoon of Sunday,
June
3.
Daily seminar sessions are conducted with ample opportunity for
exploration, recreation, and relaxation. In general, the seminar
sessions last about two hours each with free time between
sessions. Participants are expected to remain in residence for the
duration of the seminar. Free afternoons are provided followed by
evening sessions that last until around 9 pm. The seminar ends after lunch on
Thursday, June 7. Further information on what to bring and what
to expect will be included in the participant package.
Staff
The Seminar Director is Dr. Terry Whisnant from
Southside Virginia Community College. Since 1991, Dr. Whisnant has
led Master Teacher Seminars all across the U.S. For more
