BOT1010 Botany
Description: An evolutionary survey of the plant kingdom, this course emphasizes the principles, which are applicable to all forms of plant life. Six contact hours: three lecture hours, three laboratory hours. A.A., A.S., A.A.S.

BSC1005 Life In Its Biological Environment
Description: This course is an introduction to biological structure, function processes, principles and concepts. This course fulfills the General Education Requirement. Three contact hours. (CBE) A.A., A.S., A.A.S.

BSC1005L Biology Laboratory
Description: Prerequisite or corequisite: BSC 1005. This course provides students hands-on experience using concepts of biological science that are covered in the lecture course BSC 1005. Two contact hours (laboratory). (CBE) A.A., A.S., A.A.S.

BSC2010C  Principles Of Biology I
Description: This course, an introduction to the principles of biology, includes studies of cellular organization, genetics and evolution. This course fulfills the General Education Requirements and the laboratory requirement needed by many students who plan to transfer to a four-year institution. Five contact hours: three lecture hours, two laboratory hours. (CBE) A.A., A.S., A.A.S.

BSC2011C  Principles Of Biology II
Description: Prerequisite: BSC 2010C. This course, a continuation of Principles of Biology I and recommended for science students transferring to four-year institutions, studies the systematics of life forms and a required laboratory experience to reinforce subject matter. Five contact hours: three lecture hours, two laboratory hours. A.A.

BSC2020C  Human Biology
Description: Prerequisite: BSC 2010C or equivalent. This course is an introduction to the science of biology with emphasis on cells and tissues, body organization, homeostasis, body systems, regulation and integration of body parts, reproduction, development and heredity, disease and disorder. Five contact hours: three lecture hours, two laboratory hours. A.A.

BSC2050C  Biology Of Environmental Systems
Description: Prerequisite: successful completion of a biological or physical science course. This course is an introduction to ecology, principles of ecology with applications to environmental issues and discussion of major terrestrial/ aquatic ecosystems. Three contact hours. (CBE) A.A., A.S., A.A.S.

BSC2085C Human Anatomy And Physiology I
Description: Prerequisite: high school chemistry or equivalent taken within the past five years or satisfactory performance on a chemistry competency test. High school biology or the equivalent taken within the past five years or satisfactory performance on a biology competency test. This course includes basic anatomical and directional terminology; fundamental concepts and principles of cell biology; histology; the integumentary, skeletal, muscular and nervous systems; special senses and the endocrine system. Within Anatomy and Physiology I, these topics may or may not be covered in the sequence listed. Five contact hours: three lecture hours, two laboratory hours. A.A., A.S., A.A.S.

BSC2086C Human Anatomy And Physiology II
Description: Prerequisite: BSC 2085C. This course is a continuation of Human Anatomy and Physiology I and includes: the cardiovascular system; the lymphatic system and immunity; the respiratory system; the digestive system and metabolism; the urinary system; fluid/electrolyte and acid/base balance; and the reproductive systems. Within Anatomy and Physiology II, these topics may or may not be covered in the sequence listed. Five contact hours: three lecture hours, two laboratory hours. A.A., A.S., A.A.S.

BSC2933 Selected Topics in Biological Sciences
Description: Prerequisite: depends upon topics. Corequisite: depends upon topics. The open format of this course provides an opportunity to address various selected topics related to the biological sciences. This course may be repeated for credit. Three contact hours. A.A.

MCB2010C Microbiology
Description: Prerequisite: CHM 1020, CHM 1032C, CHM 2045C, or high school chemistry. Recommended: successful completion of BSC 1005, BSC 2010C, or BSC 2085C/2086C. This course is a study of microscopic forms of life including bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa and helminthes of medical and economic importance. Laboratory work will include microscopy and staining, aseptic transfer and culture techniques, and biochemical tests for microbial identification. Six contact hours: three lecture hours, three laboratory hours. A.A., A.S., A.A.S.

HUN1201 Human Nutrition
Description: Students will acquire the basic principles of nutrition and develop skills in applying the Dietary Reference Intakes to all age groups. The course emphasizes nutrition for disease prevention and key food nutrients and phytochemicals that are determinants of health and disease. Weight control and nutrition throughout the lifespan are also included. Three contact hours. A.A., A.S., A.A.S.
