Welcome to our virtual office here at Florida Community College in Jacksonville Fl. From the SCCL and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning. The Mission of the SCCL is to provide opportunities for college faculty to receive training, information, and support for creating and maintaining interactive teaching and learning through the use of cooperative learning principles and techniques researched and developed by Roger and David Johnson of the Cooperative Learning Center at the University of Minnesota. Roger and David have been pioneering cooperative learning for thirty years and were instrumental in helping FCCJ set up its cooperative learning center. SCCL has been training faculty in cooperative learning for ten years, beginning in 1994. The Center is the result of a FIPSE grant received in 1993. Today we have Cooperative Learning leadership faculty experienced in the college setting who facilitate our seminars. We offer two four day seminars a year to train faculty in cooperative learning, as well as a number of workshops each semester. This site provides information about our seminars, workshops, lesson plans, an FCCJ cooperative learning mentor list and a message about online interactions which incorporate some aspects of Cooperative Learning. Have a question for everyone? Just post it to the Discussion Board. For more information about the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning and its annual Conference, click here.
