Dear Coaches & Competitors,
It’s once again time for “The Star” to rise over Florida. We enthusiastically invite you and your team to the Ninth Annual Star Invitational to be held November 8th through the 10th on the South Campus of Florida Community College.
If you've never been to “The Star” or it has been a couple of years since you have been, we hope that this is the year you will give us a try. If you have been a regular supporter of “The Star,” we extend our sincere appreciation and welcome your return. Our philosophy has always been to provide a well-run, enjoyable tournament for all.
Let us highlight some of the features that make “The Star” unique:
n You get to stay in a brand new hotel! We are pleased to announce that the Hampton Inn is the official hotel and sponsor of this year’s tournament. This newly opened hotel is conveniently located to restaurants, grocery stores and other types of shopping. Please make reservations by October 24th.
n We include all 11 Individual Events, Readers Theater, LD and Parliamentary Debate.
n The Joy of Tournaments software will facilitate registration and tabulation again this year. Just think - easy online registration and all the dropping and adding you care to do up until November 4th.
n We give away CASH! This year we will continue to offer the following cash awards at the tournament (We are hoping to broaden this list of cash awards by the time of the tournament):
o As usual, the Samuel Jackson Pentathlon Award will be awarded to the top Pentathlon competitor. This $200 cash award is just the motivation for your students to get all those new events ready.
o We also honor one of our former FCCJ forensics family members. The Richard O’Bryant After Dinner Speaking Award will be awarded to the top ADS speaker at the tournament. This is a $100 cash award.
o We’re also awarding the Norm Will Poetry Interpretation Award to the top Poetry interpreter at the tournament. Dr. Will was the president of South Campus and was an eager host of the tournament for years. Dr. Will was also an ardent supporter of intercollegiate forensics. This is a $100 cash award.
n We take care of our coaches.
We are excited about hosting a great tournament and look forward to seeing you here. As always, we’ll work to keep
the judging loads light, the tournament running on schedule and the coaches and competitors happy!
If you have any questions, please contact us through one of the channels of communication listed below.
Sincerely,
