MAC 1114 College Trigonometry - Online

This course is taught with two platforms:  Blackboard and Thinkwell

Blackboard is our virtual classroom for adminstration:  announcements, student homepages, course documents (Syllabus and more), grades, initiating email to FCCJ accounts, discussion boards and more.

Thinkwell is our virtual classroom for content:  video lectures, sample problems, homework, quizzes, chapter tests and more

Required:  Thinkwell's Trigonometry with Edward Burger, a web-based mathematics platform accessed through purchase of an authorization code to Thinkwell.  Contact Thinkwell for more information or visit their Student Store.  Students are expected to purchase the subscription (access) and register with Thinkwell before the start of the course.  Course deadlines will not be extended due to untimely registration.

Recommended:  Thinkwell's Trigonometry Companion Workbook.  See more information at Thinkwell's Student Store.

Required:  Graphing calculator.  Suggested:  TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-83 Silver Edition, TI-84, TI-84 Plus.  Only TI-83 and TI-84s are allowed at proctored Testing Sites.

Required the First Week of the Course

(1)  Students are required to email the instructor an electronically signed Course Contract.  The contract is available the first day of the course in Blackboard, (click on Course Documents).

(2)  Students are required to email the instructor a completed Alternate Testing Site Form.  The form is located in Blackboard, (click on Course Documents).

(3)  Students are required to register in Thinkwell.

(4)  Students are required to pass (80% or better) the Orientation and Syllabus Quiz (repeatable,  no time limit, due the first week of class).  The quiz is located in Blackboard (click on QUIZ).

(5)  Students are required to post a message of introduction in the Introductions Discussion Board in Blackboard (click on Discussion Boards)

NOTE: You will not be considered officially part of this class until the instructor receives the Course Contract, receives the Alternative Testing Site Form, confirms you passed the Orientation and Syllabus Quiz, and confirms that you have registered at Thinkwell.  At the end of the first week of the course, students who do not meet this requirements are dropped from the course for nonattendance.

Students must be able to attend a proctored Midterm Exam and Final Exam as scheduled below.  If these dates do not meet your schedule, do not enroll in this course.  These dates cannot be changed.

Required:  Independent, motivated mathematic student.  If you work independently, enjoy reading and posting messages from classmates, can trouble-shoot computer problems (and know when and where to seek help), and prefer the private study offered by online courses, this course should suit you well.
