Overview:

This course provides an introduction to technology in education. You will  gain experience using existing and emerging technology and develop strategies for applying your learning to the classroom.  You will have the opportunity to develop the skills required to use productivity software, use the major on-line research tools available, and create instructional materials using computer based software.  Cooperative and accelerated learning techniques will be incorporated in this learning experience.

The amount of information that can be covered in this course is just a small portion of what every new teacher should learn. Therefore, the primary goals of this course are:

        a.   To instill a desire to learn about the use of technology in the

              classroom.

        b.   To understand how computers can and are being utilized in schools

              today.

        c.   To understand how computers and networking can enrich education

              in the future.

In order to begin achieving these goals, some basic knowledge is required. For  some of you, this will be your first contact with computers and related technologies. For others, computers are an everyday tool. Because of its limited time, this course cannot begin to teach everything you need to know, therefore a limited number of skills will be taught directly, while others will be briefly discussed.
