Save Word 2007 documents in Word 2003 format

 

With the advent of Microsoft Office 2007, all Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files are saved in a new XML format, e.g. .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx. 

 

When your students purchase a new computer with Office 2007 loaded, they will save files in the new version.  If you have not yet transitioned to the new software, you will not be able to open these files, causing additional problems for you and your students.

 

To prevent this problem you can put an announcement on your Blackboard course explaining that files must be saved in Office 2003, or earlier, format and attaching the link to the student tutorials section shown below.  There is a link to a Captivate video demonstrating how to do this.
