Home Chapter 1

Samples of material available if you adopt one of the computer repair texts is available at the following links: Chapter 1 and Chapter 2

I have several books that I have written and two that I co-authored.

The Complete A+ Guide to PC Repair is in its fourth edition and is similar to my first textbook except it contains chapters on all the operating systems covered on the A+ Certification exam. I have several examples of the instructor material that is available for this book.

Scott/Jones Publishing asked me to try my hand at writing. I told them that I was applying for a faculty position and would be learning how to be a full-time teacher for at least a year. One year later that called me back and asked if I was ready. I don't know if I was ready or not, but I took the plunge. Now, Addison/Wesley owns the rights. I have several examples of the instructor material that is available for this book.

IP Telephony Using CallManager Express is a book I co-wrote with my boss, Ernie Friend. It is a lab manual for VoIP using CME. For someone wanting to get into VoIP and needs something to guide them through, this is it.

The Complete Computer Repair Textbook is soon to be in 4th edition. It was the first textbook I ever wrote and focuses on the hardware portion of the A+ Certification exam. It is actually pretty funny how I became an author. Scott/Jones Publishing, my publisher contacted me to do some chapter reviews of a potential computer repair author. I told the Scott/Jones representative, "You do not want me. I am too critical of every textbook on the market. One of these days I am going to write one of my own." The representative stated that I was exactly the kind of person to do a review. The review I did consisted of 30 type written pages including some re-writes of the material. The author was offended and never went to press.

The A+ Certification Study Guide was my second book and it is geared towards students who want practice questions to prepare for the exam.

The book I co-authored with fellow faculty member Kevin Hampton, What A CCNA Should Really Know, is chocked full of exercises for those learning CCNA.

Another book, Operating Systems for Technicans 2004, I co-authored with Todd Meadors focuses just on operating systems. It includes a chapter on Unix even though it is not covered on the A+ Exam.

The book that goes along with the Operating Systems for Technicians 2004 is Hardware for Technicians 2004, which focuses on the hardware covered on the A+ certification. The book includes labs and lots of end of chapter review questions. I have several examples of the instructor material that is available for this book.
